Rick Owens and his 10 rules of wisdom!

American fashion designer Rick Owens (Who we love so much because he is just magnificent) started his own label in 1994 in Los Angels, with hard work and persistence his brand has grown to become one of the most sought after and highly regarded in fashion. He later moved his brand to fashion capital and our Second home “Paris” Where we caught up with him during Paris Fashion week (as seen below with Mohammed).

"Mohammed and Rick Paris Fashion Week"

Rick Owens shared his top 10 rules of style and wisdom with Detail magazine where he revealed his fashion guidelines giving us insight into his style choices. It gave us goose bumps and hopefully you will react the same way.

"Images of Rick were shot by Nick Knight"

Here they are so please note them down:

1.
I’m not good at subtlety. If you’re not going to be discreet and quiet, then just go all the way and have the balls to shave off your eyebrows, bleach your hair, and put on some big bracelets.

2.
Working out is modern couture. No outfit is going to make you look or feel as good as having a fit body. Buy less clothing and go to the gym instead.

3.
I’ve lived in Paris for six years, and I’m sorry to say that the Ugly American syndrome still exists. Sometimes you just want to say “Stop destroying the landscape with your outfit.” Still, from a design standpoint, I’m tempted to redo the fanny pack. I look at it as a challenge—it’s something to react against.

4.
When a suit gets middle-of-the-road it kind of loses me—it has to be sharp and classic and almost forties.

5.
Hair and shoes say it all. Everything in between is forgivable as long as you keep it simple. Trying to talk with your clothes is passive-aggressive.

6.
There’s something a little too chatterboxy about color. Right now I want black, for its sharpness and punctuation.

7.
Jean-Michel Frank, the thirties interior and furniture designer, supposedly had 40 identical double-breasted gray flannel suits. He knew himself and is a wonderful example of restraint and extravagance.

8.
I hate rings and bracelets on men. I’m not a fan of man bags, or girl bags either—or even sunglasses. I don’t like fussy accessories. Isn’t it more chic to be free? Every jacket I make has interior pockets big enough to store a book and a sandwich and a passport.

9.
With layering, sometimes the more the better. When you layer a lot of black you’re like a walking Louise Nevelson sculpture, and that’s pretty attractive. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable is also one of the most attractive things you can do.

10.
It’s funny—whenever someone talks about rules, I just want to break them. I recoil from the whole idea of rules

And there you have it. Make use of it and check out his shoot and video by Nick Knight and learn a thing on 2 on Rick from the SHOWSTUDIO VIDEO editorials.

Autumn Winter 2010 Trends

I’m a big fan of autumn winter clothing so I’m always more excited to see the looks from the runway as I think I prefer my winter wears just that little bit more.
Designers from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Prada, Bottega, Rick Owens, Gucci, Dior Homme, Jil sander and Raf Simmons all presented to us Prints, Military, Fur, Chunky Knits, and Minimalism.

lets start by the prints:
Prints were key this season and could be found on the runways of McQueen, Dries and Prada. Rather than copy the head to toe look sported by McQueen use a print as a statement piece and team with other staples.

Military:
Military has been big for a few season’s now, you could go as far as saying military inspired pieces will always be classics that you can rely on. Burberry as always had a heavily military inspired show, but you could also find it in Bottega and Prada.

Fur:
Fur is a big trend this season in womenswear and it has also made it’s way in to the menswear collections. Rather than the full fur get ups seen in the Chanel womenswear collection, they were mostly seen as trims and linings and accessories on the likes of D&G, Rick Owens and McQueen.

Chunky Knits:
Similar to military inspired pieces, chunky knits have been around for a few seasons and can now be considered a winter staple for men, try opting for a patterned knit this season as seen by Gucci

Minimalism:
Like Fur, minimalism was also a trend seen in the shows. Dior Homme, Jil sander and Raf Simmons all had minimalist infused collections. Think clean lines and sharp cuts.

So here is our round up for what you should look for to be on Trend for the Autumn Winter Season.
Remember Dress to impress.

Rick Owens "Monastic couture"

Rick Owens label for Spring 2011 is called "Monastic Couture" where he brings us Long coats with a single button were lapel-less, tops streamed away to an asymmetrical point, emphasizing their aerodynamic quality.
What we like about Rick Owens is that he doesn't really care whether his clothes get worn or not, and that is the kind of attitude we like.
